Oswestry man Charles Green dies after burglar attack

An 87-year-old man has died in hospital a month after being assaulted by burglars at his home in Shropshire.

Charles Green, of Ambleside Road, Oswestry, received hip, arm and head injuries when he was attacked by two men who broke into his home on 2 May.

He died in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital earlier.

A 25-year-old man appeared in court on Tuesday on charges relating to trespassing and subjecting someone to violence, police said.

He appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court and was remanded in custody until July.

A 23-year-old man has also been arrested and bailed.

Investigations are continuing.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course, West Mercia Police said.

Det Insp Mick Homden said: "I appeal to local people in the Ambleside Road area to cast their minds back to the early hours of May 2, the Bank Holiday Monday, and if they recall seeing anything suspicious which could be connected to the incident, to please contact Oswestry CID as a matter of urgency."
