Shropshire Star cuts number of editions

Publishers of the Shropshire Star newspaper are to merge some editions as part of changes to printing times.

The Shrewsbury, South and Border versions of the paper are to merge, with the new edition printed at 09:30, The Midland News Association said.

The last edition, which serves Telford, will now be produced at 15:00.

Editor Keith Harrison said technical issues had already forced the reduction from five editions and he expected just one compulsory redundancy as a result.

Mr Harrison added that the problems at its Ketley print centre had "served as a natural trial for the change, without us seeing a related drop in sales".

A period of consultation over redundancies previously announced ends next month.
