Woman dies after being hit by car in Market Drayton

A 76-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car in Shropshire.

Police believe she may have been mowing a roadside lawn when the crash happened at 15:30 BST on Tuesday in Mickley Lane, near Tern Hill in Market Drayton.

West Mercia Police said the woman was hit by a black Ford Galaxy. The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 50s, was unhurt.

The woman was taken to City General Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent, and died soon after arriving.

PC Rob Seager said: "It's thought she may have been mowing a roadside lawn at the time. We are anxious to hear from anyone who saw anything which might assist the police investigation into this tragedy.

"The lady was in collision with a black coloured Ford Galaxy MPV which was travelling along Mickley Lane from the direction of Fauls Green towards the Hodnet by-pass."

Police are appealing for the driver of a white vehicle, possibly a van, travelling from the direction of Hodnet by-pass along Mickley Lane, towards the village of Fauls Green, which may have passed the Galaxy.
