Motorist dies as car hits tree near Ironbridge

A motorist was pronounced dead and three other people had serious injuries after a car hit a tree in Shropshire.

The ambulance service was called to Ironbridge Road in Jackfield, near Ironbridge, at 02:50 BST.

A male passenger believed to be in his 20s had serious head and pelvic injuries and another male sustained a serious arm injury.

They were taken to hospital along with a woman in her 20s who had a serious arm injury.

She went to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, while the other two were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The driver was confirmed dead at the scene.
