Leegomery car chase: Conspiracy to commit murder arrest

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Shropshire on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, police have said.

West Mercia Police said the arrest followed a two-car chase through Leegomery.

After the cars stopped there was a "foot chase" and a man was seen who "may have been carrying a handgun" and was wearing a balaclava.

Police said no shots were fired in the incident, which happened around 19:15 BST on Saturday, 8 September.

The car chase involved a black BMW and a silver Polo which were travelling down Grainger Drive. One person from each of the vehicles got out and ran towards Catterick Close, police said.

Det Ch Insp Jason Wells said: "We executed two warrants, one in Dawley and one in Arleston, and as a result a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and taken into custody in Shrewsbury."

Police said they were keen to talk to a group of youths who were in the car park near the football pitches on Grainger Drive when the incident occurred.
