Veolia Environmental Services plans new Shropshire compost plant

A new composting plant could be built in Shropshire.

Veolia Environmental Services says the food waste facility at Woodhouse Farm, Telford, would deal with 64,000 tonnes of waste each year.

The company which handles Shropshire Council's rubbish won the right to build a waste incinerator near Shrewsbury in January.

Telford and Wrekin planning councillors are due to look at the plans on 24 October.

Donald MacPhail from the firm said Shropshire's food waste currently has to be taken to Derbyshire.

He added the compost produced is sold as fertiliser and sold in shops in the area.
