Shrewsbury remembrance park: Name sought as plans go on show
Local residents are being asked to suggest a name for a £1.1m remembrance park in Shropshire.
Shropshire Council is putting plans for the new park at Bowbrook, in Shrewsbury, on display from next week.
The park will replace the existing Emstrey cemetery, in London Road, which is due to close to new burials in 2015.
The plans will also be on display at both Shirehall and The Guildhall in Shrewsbury from 31 October to 6 November.
They will also be on the council website from 31 October.
Shropshire Council said the site had been chosen because it is the right size, in a quiet area and will have good access from main roads.
It is also close to the crematorium and chapel at the Longden Road cemetery and meets a number of environmental conditions, a spokesperson said.
A planning application for the park is due to be submitted in November and the council said it hoped planning permission would be granted in early 2013.
A spokesman said construction work was planned to begin in spring 2013, with the remembrance park scheduled to open in spring 2014.
