Alveley bungalow fire victim believed to be homeowner

The man killed in a fire which severely damaged a bungalow in Shropshire is believed to be the 70-year-old who lived there, police have said.

West Mercia Police said formal identification of the man was yet to take place but he was "believed to be Victor Narburgh".

About 40 firefighters attended the blaze in Birds Green, Alveley, which started on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesman said the fire was being treated as unexplained.

Det Insp Mark Bellamy said: "At this stage the cause of the fire is still not known and police detectives and forensic officers are working closely with investigators from Shropshire Fire and Rescue to establish how it started."

Police said formal identification was anticipated to take place "sometime in the coming days".
