Elderly Shropshire woman punched at her Albrighton home

An elderly woman from Albrighton, in Shropshire, has been punched and left with cuts and swelling to her nose and eye following an attack at her home.

Police said she answered the door in Grange Road at about 17:30 GMT on 2 January and was struck in the face and knocked to the ground by a young man.

He ran down the road and out of sight, leaving the woman "shaken and upset."

PC Alex Sheldon, of West Mercia Police, said it was a "nasty and unprovoked attack."

He said: "The victim, while not seriously hurt, is understandably traumatised and extremely shaken by what happened and anyone who can help is asked to contact police on 101."

PC Sheldon added that another neighbour had heard a knock at their door at about the same time but when they answered it, there was nobody there.

"It is possible that this other incident is linked and anyone who saw a young man in Grange Road that teatime is urged to get in touch as soon as possible," he said.
