Telford crash driver arrested after boy's death bailed

A driver arrested in connection with the death of a nine-year-old boy after a car crash has been released on bail.

Police said Jayden Lee McIvor was on foot at the time of a collision between two cars in Telford, Shropshire, on Saturday.

He died after suffering multiple injuries when he was hit in Haybridge Avenue in the Hadley area.

The 19-year-old driver of one of the cars has been bailed until 10 April after being questioned.

'Tragic circumstances'

West Mercia Police said the collision, between a Ford Focus and a Citroen Grand Picasso, happened just after 15:00 GMT and the arrested man had been driving the Ford.

An air ambulance went to the crash site, as well as two land ambulances, but the boy was confirmed dead at the scene. The West Midlands Ambulance service said he went into cardiac arrest.

PC Al Saxton said: "A young boy has died in tragic circumstances and our thoughts are with his family.

"We are conducting a full and thorough investigation into the circumstances and it is vital that we speak to anyone who saw either of the vehicles being driven prior to the collision or witnessed what happened."
