Shifnal cash van robbed by hammer-wielding men

Hooded men brandishing a hammer have stolen a "significant" amount of money from security van in Shropshire, police have said.

The robbery happened outside Barclays Bank, The Square, Shifnal at 12:45 BST.

West Mercia Police said one man remained in a getaway car while the other confronted the security officer, threatening him with a hammer.

The car was a silver Seat Leon with a yellow sign on its roof, police said.

No-one was hurt in the incident.

Det Insp Mark Bellamy said the robbers escaped along Aston Street towards the A41.

He appealed for people in the Shifnal area to keep a lookout for a discarded cash box.

It is made of plastic and is about 2ft (61cm) long, 10in (25cm) wide and about 4in (10cm) deep.
