The experience patients receive at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital has been praised in a survey.
Areas under scrutiny included the nutritional value and choice of food and how easy it was for patients to talk privately with medical staff.
Participants looked at each area and had to answer questions from a checklist with the results externally audited.
The assessment team included staff, patients and members of the public.
A hospital spokeswoman said the survey operated to a strict set of criteria.
She said: "They look at the state of decoration and maintenance in patient areas, and the availability of private areas for patients to discuss issues with doctors.
"We were extremely pleased to receive the top possible score for providing an excellent patient environment, high quality food and for prioritising privacy and dignity for patients," she added.
