A man has been killed when he was hit by a vehicle on the M5 in Somerset.
Police said he reportedly left his vehicle after a crash on the northbound carriageway between Bridgwater and Burnham on Sea.
The force spokesman said he is thought to have crossed the central reservation, where he was hit.
The incident happened between junctions 23 and 22 at about 2247 BST on Friday night. The dead man is believed to be in his 20s,
An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman said both carriageways were closed after the crash.
The northbound carriageway reopened at about 0000 BST while the southbound carriageway repoened soon after 0600 BST, he added.
The spokesman said officers were looking for the driver of a silver or light-coloured Renault, which is thought to have been in a collision with one of the emergency vehicles that attended.
