Two Somerset councils warn of tax refund phone scam

  • Published

Two Somerset councils are warning residents not to give bank details out over the phone after a number of hoax calls.

The warning comes after people reported being approached by callers who claim to work for the council and offer council tax refunds.

The caller then asks for bank account details to process the refund.

Sedgemoor and South Somerset councils said they would never ask for confidential information in this way.
