Police operation targets bad drivers in Bridgwater

"Boy racers" and those riding illegally-modified scooters are being targeted by police in Bridgwater

The operation run in partnership with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (Vosa) aims to reduce the number of accidents involving people under 19.

An Avon and Somerset police spokeswoman said bad driving and excessive speed were problems being prioritised.

"Those riding too fast or dangerously risk their own lives and other road user's safety," she said.

During the campaign's first day 18 vehicles were examined and 15 issued with immediate prohibition notices by Vosa for dangerous defects.

"Anyone driving over the speed limit or those suspected of having improper modifications will be stopped and could well be taken for testing.

"Drivers could face on-the-spot fines, points on their licence or could have their vehicles seized," the force spokeswoman added.
