Plans for a new hotel, leisure facilities and offices to be built at a site just off junction 24 of the M5 in Somerset have been deferred.

Submitted by Bridgwater Gateway Development, the plans also include a park and ride facility.

About 1,400 people signed a petition saying the proposals would create too much traffic.

Sedgemoor District Council has asked for more information on plans for roads, cycle ways and green travel.

Sedgemoor Traffic Action Group opposed the plans, saying it would cause too much traffic and affect house prices.

Geoff Revell from the developers Miller Turner Investments said he was disappointed but would look at the plans again.

It will come back to planning committee in two months.
