Two stuck on Weston pier ride during power cut

Two people got stuck on a fairground ride on Weston-super-Mare's Grand Pier during a power failure on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called by a visitor, but the pier's owner Kerry Michael said crews were turned away because they were not needed.

Mr Michael said: "Our trained staff had the people down in a matter of minutes."

The Robocoaster has two seats at the top of a vertical "arm", which then moves in different directions at speed.

Mr Michael added: "We have an evacuation procedure in place to cater for power cuts and malfunctions and that procedure worked perfectly."
