Man charged following death of cyclist Amy Hofmeister, 13

A 41-year-old man from Taunton has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Amy Hofmeister, 13, was riding her bike when she was struck by a Vauxhall Vectra on Wednesday.

Leonard Jones from Taunton is also charged with driving without insurance. On Saturday Taunton Magistrates' Court remanded him in custody.

A second man, 37, who was also arrested has been released without charge. A 19-year-old woman remains on police bail.

Amy was a pupil at Bishop Fox's Community School in Taunton.

Avon and Somerset Police sealed off the roundabout where Blackbrook Way intersects with Chestnut Drive and Lisieux Way following the crash while the incident was investigated.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, which happened at 1930 BST on 15 June, to come forward.
