Traveller site plan near Coleford refused

Plans have been refused for a proposed traveller site in Somerset.

Six caravan pitches, a barn and stables had been recommended for approval along Newbury Lane near Coleford because of a local need for traveller sites.

Three neighbouring parish councils of Coleford, Holcombe and Kilmersdon had each opposed the plans and the council received 91 letters of objection.

The decision was made at a Mendip District Council meeting on Wednesday.

Councillors refused the application on the grounds that the visual impact of the site and the impact on highway safety outweighed the need for more traveller sites.
