Majority oppose Frome town market move

Almost half the people questioned over a potential move of a town market in Somerset said they were against the plan.

Some 372 people took part in a consultation over the plan to move Frome's market from the Cheese and Grain car park to the Market Place.

Mendip Council said 49% were against the move, 43% backed it while 8% were not concerned about the plan.

The main concern raised was about a lack of space in the Market Place.

The council said the majority of those against the move were market traders while supporters were mostly town centre business owners.

Councillor Phillip Ham said the council would consider the comments before deciding the future of the market.
