Helicopter rescued boy from Somerset cliff

A boy had to be winched to safety by a helicopter after he and another youngster were stranded on cliffs in Somerset.

The two 16-year-olds had been walking on the beach between Watchet and Blue Anchor on Monday when they were cut off by the tide.

One of the boys tried to scramble up the cliff and was later winched to the top by a helicopter.

The other boy was rescued by Coastguards in a boat.

Minehead lifeboat operations manager Dr John Higgie said: "The crews were on scene and had the situation assessed very rapidly, and from then on those boys knew they were going to be OK."
