Somerset Conservative county councillors choose new leader
The new leader of the ruling Conservative party at Somerset County Council has been named as John Osman.
Mr Osman, who is responsible for children and young people, was chosen during an election on Monday evening.
The appointment means he is likely to become council leader after Ken Maddock announced his resignation last month.
Mr Maddock plans to run in the November election to become commissioner of Avon and Somerset Police.
Mr Osman's position as overall leader of the county council will be confirmed if the entire council votes him through on 16 May.
David Hall, who is responsible for environment and economic development, has been voted in as deputy Conservative leader.
