A man is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after he was stabbed in Bath.

Two men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the incident which happened in Snow Hill at about 21:20 BST on Monday.

Ambulance crews treated the injured man, who was lying in the road, before he was taken to the Royal United Hospital with chest and stomach wounds.

The arrested men are aged 50 and 25. The arrested woman is aged 50.

'Iron bar'

Det Ch Insp David Gill said it was believed the incident took place at two separate blocks of flats, ending with the victim being attacked outside Inchalloch House.

He said the three arrested people all lived close to the injured man's address.

"It appears he's suffered from several stab wounds to the chest and abdomen area," Mr Gill said.

"We've recovered an iron bar and have potentially got some knives we've recovered.

"We're now searching both the scene outside the premises and between here and Walcot House for other weapons which may or may not have been used."

Officers said it was believed to be an isolated incident and that mounted police were carrying out high profile patrols to reassure residents.
