Somerset's future waste plans scrutinised

A government inspector has begun examining Somerset County Council's future waste management plans.

The document includes plans for a type of waste treatment centre in Taunton, Yeovil, Street or Bridgwater.

Over the next few days, the inspector will hear feedback from organisations who have any concerns.

Once the hearing ends, the inspector will decide whether to allow the county council to adopt its planned strategy which is set to run until 2028.

Although the waste strategy has outlined the need for a waste treatment centre, the type of centre it would be or the number that could be built has not been specified.

No plans have been made for a new landfill site.
