Eastover regeneration consultation begins

A consultation into plans to regenerate a run-down part of a Somerset town is beginning on Tuesday.

Sedgemoor District Council wants the public to give their views on how to improve the Eastover area of Bridgwater.

Planning officer Stuart Martin said the local authority would not be able to fund the regeneration, but would rely on outside investment.

The consultation will last for eight weeks.

Mr Martin said: "Eastover has deteriorated over many years, it's a very poor quality townscape, lots of shops closed down, lots of shutters.

"It's just sad, really, to see it like this.

"We're not certain why people don't come across the Town Bridge to Eastover, that's what this planning document is about, pinning down what the answers possibly could be and then making it happen."
