Tributes have been paid to a man who was injured outside a nightclub in Weston-super-Mare.

Police said Joseph Williams had been found on Beach Road with a serious head injury early on Sunday. He was taken to Frenchay Hospital but died later.

His mother Lin Williams said Joseph was particularly passionate about football both as a player and supporter.

A man in his 30s who was arrested in connection with the incident is currently on bail.

In a family tribute, his mother Lin said Joseph was full of life and had lots of friends.

"Words cannot express how much we, his mum, dad, and two brothers will miss him. He also leaves behind Treasure, his Jack Russell, and they were so fond of each other.

"The police are investigating the incident and if anyone knows anything I'd urge them not to take matters into their own hands.

"If you can help please tell the police and let them deal with it," she added.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, which happened on Beach Road, is asked to call police or Crimestoppers.
