Somerset village playing field granted Jubilee status

A playing field in a village in Somerset has been granted special status to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

The green space on the edge of Cossington will be formally dedicated as a Queen Elizabeth Field in Trust at an event later.

It means the playing field will always be maintained for recreational and sports use.

Helen Griffiths, from Fields in Trust, said it meant the site would be safe from development.

She said: "It's also a great way of marking the legacy of the events of 2012, both the Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, within individual communities across the country."
