Minehead Butlins permitted to build more holiday homes

Butlins has been given permission to build more than 100 holiday homes on its site near Minehead, in Somerset.

West Somerset Council has approved plans for the company to continue with a £12m regeneration of the site.

The 118 holiday homes, including six suitable for wheelchair-users, will replace 169 old apartments built in the 1960s which are no longer used.

The company said the development could be completed by spring 2014 and would create about 75 jobs.

The development will be a mixture of one and two-storey holiday units on a site that already has 1,850 holiday homes.
