Man arrested over Bridgwater attack on mother and child

A man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault in Somerset in which a mother and child were tied up and held at knifepoint.

The pair were held at their home in Sydenham, Bridgwater, on 21 January, police said.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and sexual assault.

Police, who described the attack as "a horrendous ordeal", have not said which of the victims was sexually assaulted.

The attack sparked a major investigation which has included house-to-house inquiries at more than 250 homes and hours of CCTV footage being reviewed.

A £5,000 reward has been offered by Crimestoppers.
