Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire on the seafront in Weston-super-Mare.

Avon and Somerset Police said two young men, aged 16 and 17, were being questioned about the blaze, which began at about 17:00 BST on Tuesday.

At its height, more than 50 firefighters tackled the fire in a building containing residential flats.

The fire, on the second and third floors, was brought under control after four hours.

Two people were treated for the effects of breathing in smoke, Avon Fire and Rescue said.

A police spokesman said crime scene investigators were working with the fire service to establish the cause of the blaze.

The building was used for commercial purposes on the ground floor and flats above.

Neighbouring flats were evacuated and road closures were not lifted until about 09:00 on Wednesday.
