Conservative Party forfeits Rother Valley donation
The Conservative Party has agreed to forfeit a £2,500 donation received by an individual who was not on the electoral register.
The money was donated to the Rother Valley Conservative Party in South Yorkshire by a Mohammed R Nabi, the Electoral Commission said.
Legislation requires parties to check that donors are registered as voters, making the donation impermissible.
A Conservative Party spokesman said the money had been "voluntarily forfeited".
The money was donated to the Rother Valley branch in November.
A Conservative Party spokesman said: "This was a clerical error by the Rother Valley Association, which has voluntarily forfeited the full amount of the donation to the Electoral Commission, as set out in the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000."
