Conservative hold in Sitwell by-election

The Conservative Party has retained control of a marginal seat in South Yorkshire after a by-election.
Christopher Middleton beat four other candidates standing in the Sitwell ward, Rotherham, in the election which took place on Thursday.
The vacancy arose on Rotherham Council following the death of Tory councillor Michael Clarke this year.
Mr Middleton polled 1213 votes with Labour's Judy Dalton coming in second with 864 votes.
Independent candidate David Ridgway polled 252 votes, John Wilkinson took 241 votes and Abdul Razaq had 98 votes.
