A man accused of murdering a fellow patient at a Sheffield hospital has made his first crown court appearance.

Keith Headleand, 85, was attacked at Grenoside Grange Hospital in the early hours of 20 August and later died from heart failure.

Alex Taylor, 64, a fellow inpatient at the hospital, was remanded in custody by a judge at Sheffield Crown Court.

Mr Taylor will next appear at the court for a plea and directions hearing on 2 November, a court official said.

The Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, is carrying out its own investigation into the incident.
