Plans for M1 in South and West Yorkshire approved

The government has approved funding for improvements to the M1 in parts of South and West Yorkshire.
Transport Secretary Philip Hammond announced on Tuesday that work on the road's hard shoulder around Sheffield and Leeds had been given the go-ahead.
A scheme to cut congestion on the hard shoulder of the M62 in West Yorkshire was earlier approved.
However, two other South Yorkshire road projects will have to compete with 20 others to receive government funding.
They are the Rotherham Waverley Link Road and the White Rose Way road improvement scheme in Doncaster.
