Teenager killed in crash with police car is named

A student who was run over and killed by a police car in Sheffield has been named.

Jamie Haslett, 19, from the Isle of Man, was hit by a patrol car on the city's Broad Lane just before 0400 BST on Wednesday.

The vehicle had been responding to a request by an ambulance crew for assistance with a separate matter.

Mr Haslett was studying at Sheffield Hallam. The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating.

Witnesses are being asked to contact police.

A spokeswoman from Sheffield Hallam University said: "We are sad to confirm that one of our students, Jamie Haslett, died this morning in a road traffic incident on Broad Lane, Sheffield.

"Jamie was in his second year, studying BSc (Hons) Sport and Business Management.

"He will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time."
