A £22.5m performance venue in Doncaster's new civic and cultural quarter has received £2m of lottery funding.

The money, which has been awarded through Arts Council England, will help with the construction of the building.

The venue, to be situated in the new public square, will house a 600-seat auditorium, dance and drama studios, meeting rooms and a bar and cafe.

Construction will begin in 2011 with the venue opening its doors in 2013.
