Sheffield siege: man and woman arrested after stand-off

Two people have been arrested after a six-hour siege at a house in Sheffield, police have said.

Officers were sent to the property on Edensor Road, Norwood, at lunchtime on Tuesday to arrest a 34-year-old man.

On arrival, the officers were threatened by the man who said he had a weapon and barricaded himself in.

After a six-hour stand-off, the man was arrested for recall to prison and a 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

South Yorkshire Police said the pair were arrested "safely" after contact was made through police negotiators.

"Some residents were moved from their homes for safety during the incident," a force spokeswoman said.

The man was not armed when he was arrested, she added.
