The relatives of a 26-year-old man who died after being attacked outside a Sheffield bar say they have been left "devastated" by his death.

Father-of-two Thomas Gower, of the city's Gleadless Valley, was assaulted outside Alibi bar on 18 December,

He died on Sunday at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital prompting a police investigation.

A 20-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident remains on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Gower's parents and his partner Emma Redfern issued a statement on Thursday.

They said: "Our whole family is devastated at the death of Thomas. He leaves two young sons who cannot understand why their dad has still not opened his Christmas presents with them.

"We are desperate for anyone who can assist police to find out who did this - anyone who knows anything - to come forward."
