Teenager is killed in lorry crash

A teenager died and a 45-year-old woman was left fighting for her life after their car was in collision with a lorry in Barnsley.

The crash happened on Moor Lane, Brierley, at 0810 GMT on Wednesday.

The Renault Clio, driven by a 45-year-old woman from Barnsley, crossed the carriageway into the path of an oncoming lorry, police said.

Both occupants of the car were trapped and the front seat passenger, and 18-year-old woman from Barnsley, died.

The car driver, also from Barnsley, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with "life-threatening injuries".

The driver of the lorry, a 63-year-old man from Bradford, was not hurt.
