A man whose body was found in Barnsley earlier this week died of head injuries, post-mortem tests have shown.

The body of 57-year-old John Dawson was found at his home in Highstone Avenue, Worsbrough Common, on Monday afternoon.

Two local men, aged 41 and 42, were arrested late that day on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Det Supt James Abdy, who is leading the murder investigation, urged anyone with information about the death to contact South Yorkshire Police.

He said: "Specifically, I want to hear from anyone on or around Highstone Avenue on Monday morning who may have seen any suspicious activity.

"I'm also keen to hear from anyone with any further information regarding the circumstances of John's death."
