Police name murdered Mapplewell man

A man found dead at his home in South Yorkshire has been named by police, who are conducting a murder inquiry.

Alan Cartwright, 55, was found dead in Mapplewell, Barnsley on Tuesday night by his daughter.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Wednesday concluded that Mr Cartwright had died from a head injury.

A 26-year-old Barnsley man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.

Police officers have been carrying out forensic examinations at the property and conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area.
