Darnall scooter girl critically ill in hospital

A seven-year-old girl who was hit by a car as she crossed a road on her scooter in Sheffield remains critically ill in hospital, police have said.

The child collided with the side of a Vauxhall Astra as she crossed Shirland Lane in Darnall from in front of a parked car on Wednesday afternoon.

She was taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital with a serious head injury, a broken pelvis and a fractured leg.

Her condition was described by police as "critical" on Friday.

The car driver, a 61-year-old man from Handsworth, was not injured.

Meanwhile, South Yorkshire Police said they wanted to trace the driver of an old-style green Renault Clio travelling towards the scene of the incident at the time.

They do not believe the Clio was involved in the collision but want to establish whether or not people in the car saw what happened.
