Two killed in head-on crash on A616 in Sheffield

Two people have been killed in a head-on crash in South Yorkshire.

Two vans and a car were involved in a collision on the A616 Stocksbridge bypass near Tankersley roundabout in Sheffield at about 0620 BST.

Police said there were a number of vehicles in the area at the time which did not stop.

Officers said one of the vans had crossed a double-white line immediately before the accident.

Sgt Andy Noble, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "From what we understand at this time, a light-coloured Vauxhall Astra van has travelled down the incline on the wrong side of the double-white lines.

"That has been in a head-on collision with a blue, or a light blue Transit van that has been going in the opposite direction."
