Posters are being distributed in Doncaster as police hunt the person who assaulted a man at a pub on 1 January.

Iain Eldridge, 35, remains critically ill following the attack on Station Road, Bawtry, at 00:40 GMT.

South Yorkshire Police hope the poster will prompt more witnesses to come forward.

Officers are looking for a white man, with short blond hair, in his late 20s to early 30s.

Acting Det Ch Insp Steve Whittaker said: "I'm appealing for anyone with information to please come forward. Think about what Iain's family are going through. What if this was your son, brother or father?

"Iain was in the Penny Farthing pub earlier that evening with his girlfriend and the suspect may have been in that pub too or any other pubs in Bawtry. Were you out in Bawtry? Did you take any photos that may help us?"

The attacker fled the scene following the incident which was described by police as completely unprovoked.

Mr Whittaker added: "The man fled the scene down Station Road towards Austerfield. Were you in this area? Did you see a man running this way in the early hours of New Year's Day?"
