The family of a teenager who died after a party in Barnsley has paid tribute to "a very caring and lovely young man".

South Yorkshire Police said Steven Simpson was at a party at Pleasant View in Cudworth on Saturday when he suffered burns.

The 18-year-old died in Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield at about 23:40 BST on Sunday.

Police said six people had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

'Missed by everyone'

In a statement, his family said they could not "describe the loss they all feel at this time".

The family said: "Steven had just turned 18 and was just starting out in life.

"Steven was a very caring and lovely young man, and he will be missed by everyone that knows him."

Three men, between 19 and 39 years old, and two teenagers have been bailed. A 16-year-old girl was released due to insufficient evidence.

The five people who have been bailed are all from Barnsley.

Results from a post-mortem examination, which took place on Monday, are yet to be released.

Police would like to hear from anyone who has information about the incident.
