Man seriously injured in Barnsley hit-and-run

A man has suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by a car which failed to stop in Barnsley.

The 50-year-old man, from Barnsley, was hit by one of two cars seen driving closely together on Racecommon Road at about 19:20 GMT on Wednesday.

He was taken to Barnsley District General before being transferred to the Northern General in Sheffield.

Police believe he may have been hit by a silver Ford saloon driven by a white man with "longish" fair hair.

After hitting the man, who is thought to have been in the road, the driver is believed to have continued along Racecommon Road before turning right onto Park Road.

No description is available of the second car or its driver, police said.

Anyone with information which may help to trace either motorist is asked to get in touch with South Yorkshire Police.
