An investigation has begun into the cause of a blaze that badly damaged a derelict warehouse in the centre of Sheffield on Friday morning.

Crews were called to the site on Nursery Street, off Derek Dooley Way, at 06:30 BST.

Initially five engines were sent to the scene, but this was later reduced to two crews. No-one was injured.

The building had been left unstable and was likely to face demolition, said South Yorkshire Fire Service.

At its height, smoke drifted across the A61 in the city and a cordon around the site was expanded as crews tackled the fire.

South Yorkshire Police tweeted a message as the morning rush hour approached asking commuters to avoid the area.
