Barnsley sex abuser jailed after grooming girl from aged 12

A sex abuser has been jailed for three and a half years for offences against a girl he started grooming from when she was 12.

Andrew Gosling, 21, from Barnsley, admitting inciting sexual activity and three counts of sexual activity with a child aged under 16.

Gosling, of Masons Way, repeatedly contacted the girl through internet messaging from when she was 12.

The contact with the girl went on for two years, Sheffield Crown Court heard.

South Yorkshire Police investigated after the parents of the girl raised concerns that their daughter had become "secretive" and was being contacted by Gosling.

Acting Det Insp Heather Stocks said: "This case highlights the importance of spotting the signs of child sexual exploitation.

"The parents' vigilance in recognising the signs, ensured that this offence could be investigated and the perpetrator brought to justice."
