Chesterton homes to be built on old pub site

Plans to demolish a derelict pub in Staffordshire and replace it with 19 new houses have been approved.

The Staffordshire Knot pub in Loomer Road, Chesterton, has been empty for two years.

Newcastle Borough Council approved the plans put forward by Admiral Taverns, at a meeting on Tuesday evening.

But it said the scheme must include some affordable homes and almost £3,000 per property must be spent on improving the area's general landscape.
