Stoke-on-Trent based Churchill China profits rise 50%

Pre-tax profits at a Staffordshire ceramics firm have risen by 50% in the first half of the year.

Churchill China in Stoke-on-Trent makes tableware and goods for the hospitality and retail markets and has announced it made £600,000 from January to July.

That compares with £400,000 over the same period last year.

It said its hospitality section had outperformed expectations in 2010 as in 2009 fewer people dining out had meant reduced demand for restaurant crockery.
